The Women Against State Pension Inequality campaign (WASPI) have announced that they will launch a legal challenge against the government.

It is the latest development in the fight for justice for women born in the 1950s who have had changes made to their state pension age.

They have been calling for fair transitional arrangements to be made to correct the poor lack of notification of the changes to their state pension.

I along with many other MP’s have been supporting the WASPI campaigners. I am pleased that the group have reached their financial target for a legal challenge. They have raised £75,000 in under a week since launching their fundraising website.

They have been forced to take this route as the government has not listened to calls for them to act to correct the injustice.

Their fundraising website can be found here if you wanted to donate money to help them in their fight www.crowdjustice.org/case/waspi

Recently I handed in paper petitions into Parliament on behalf of the women in my constituency who are affected. The petition attracted a large number of signatures.

I am in the process of organising a local fundraiser for the WASPI campaign and will be able to share more details in a future column but if you are interested in coming along then do get in contact and we will keep in touch about the arrangements with you.
