On Saturday 28 May women from across the North West will come together to meet with Labour MP’s across the region about the Women Against State Pension Equality Campaign.
The campaign which is better known as the WASPI campaign has been led by women born in the 1950’s who are campaigning for fair transitional arrangements for pension equality.
They were not notified sufficiently of the changes to the state pension age and what this would mean for their futures. This has left those affected financially worse off and insecure.
The government has refused to act on any of their concerns so far despite debates in the House of Commons and mounting pressure from MP’s who want to see action for the women affected.
The campaigners have had great success with their e petition so far with it almost hitting the 200,000 mark. This is almost double of what is needed for a parliamentary debate to be held so the campaign really has been momentous.
I have highlighted this issue on many occasions but unfortunately the situation remains the same. An All Party Parliament Group (APPG) has now been formed with cross party support and I hope this manages to put even more focus on the issue in Parliament.
A Public Petition to Parliament has now been launched for MP’s and their constituents. In the case of my constituents may I ask you to contact me if you live in Wirral South and are affected by this issue so I can give to you a copy of the paper petition to sign in order for it to be presented to Parliament. My office will be able to talk you through the details of the paper public petition. Just ring 0151 645 6590 for details.
I look forward to seeing campaigners at the meeting on the 28 May. Anyone is welcome to come along but please do let my office know if you plan to attend. The meeting will take place in Liverpool and run between 10am-1pm. My office will provide further details when you RSVP
