Alison McGovern MP for Wirral South has said she will continue supporting women who are part of the Women Against State Pension Inequality (WASPI) campaign despite the issue being voted down yesterday by MP’s yesterday in the House of Commons.

The vote followed a an opposition debate lead by Labour MP Owen Smith in which Alison spoke up for the women affected during two interventions during the debate.

Speaking about the debate and vote Alison McGovern said: “I am hugely disappointed to see the Tory government vote to offer no help to these women who have been leading such a dedicated campaign for pension equality on behalf of women born in the 1950s.

Adding: “I will continue to support these women in the hope that the government will eventually see sense. In yesterday’s debate I urged the government instead of continuously debating the issue to get on and do something about it. There is cross party support for this issue and I don’t want to see it as party political. I want to see justice for these women.”
