Alison McGovern MP spoke in Parliament today about the debt women of her generation owe to women born in the 1950’s.

Ms McGovern was speaking in a debate today focusing on the campaign Women Against State Pension Inequality (WASPI) led by SNP MP Mhairi Black.

The campaign relates to unfair state pension changes affecting women born in the 1950’s.

Alison McGovern is calling on the government to recognise the unfairness of these changes and is asking them to make fair transitional arrangements.

The WASPI campaign has gained a lot of momentum thanks to the campaigning efforts of the women affected.

Speaking about the campaign Alison McGovern said: “It was very important for me to speak in the debate today given the amount of contact I have received from my constituents. I have met with women affected by these unfair changes and I will be chairing a public meeting on the 15 January to hear the personal experiences of those affected. The opposition benches were filled in the chamber for today’s debate reflecting the strength of feeling of MP’s constituents.”

The meeting will be held on 15 January 1-2PM at Bebington Civic CentreĀ
