Alison McGovern MP wants to hear from Wirral families about how the cuts to tax credits will affect them
Alison McGovern MP for Wirral South is holding a meeting this Friday at 1PM to discuss the government proposed changes to tax credits.
Speaking about the meeting Alison said: “I have recently launched a petition through my website to campaign against the government’s proposed cuts to tax credits. You can sign my petition here www.alisonmcgovern.org.uk/tax_credits.
Tax Credits are designed to ensure that work pays. Cutting them undermines the value of work, and means penalising those who work hard day after day just to get by.”
She added: “The Tories have not planned any help to protect affected families. There is a real risk that children will suffer directly as a result of these changes. Labour is calling on David Cameron to stop the tax credit cut. George Osborne hasn’t balanced the books and now he’s punishing those who work hard. It’s a false economy. We need to show the human impact of these cuts to send a message to the government and keep the pressure on them. That is why I want to hear from Wirral families and individuals who are set to suffer under these cuts.”
The meeting will be held on the 30 October at 1PM at Gorge’Us cafe in Spital. If you are available to meet please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 0151 645 6590 so we can keep in touch with you about the meeting.
