Last Thursday I challenged Government Ministers on their approach to cutting support for the Feed-in Tariff scheme (FiT).

The Secretary of State from the Department of Climate Change Amber Rudd and Energy Minister Andrea Leadsom MP answered questions from MP’s about the scheme which offers financial incentives to those who generate their own electricity from renewable sources such as solar.

The consultation the government has launched closes on October 23rd and the review proposes a set of measures to cut costs to FiT.

During the session I made the point to the Ministers that green energy is vital to our economic future and urged them to think again.

I recently met with a solar installation company in my constituency who relayed their concerns directly with me.

Natural Energy Sources are based in Bromborough have real concerns about these government proposals.

The government are defending their review to look at cutting support for the feed in tariff scheme by saying that they want to reduce consumer bills but I worry that they haven’t fully looked at the impact on the threat to businesses and jobs in this industry.

Removing this support could have damaging consequences for the solar industry and it was important for me to raise the apprehensions of the business in my constituency who have real worries about the proposals and who have a very good understanding of the industry.

I know from the questions put to the government ministers last Thursday that many fellow MP’s share the concerns about the outcome of the review.

There is a parliamentary petition which can be signed by visiting here if, like me, you think the government should look again at their approach https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/106791.
