Responding to the figures released today Alison McGovern MP for Wirral South said:

I welcome a reduction in unemployment but the conditions faced by people in work is still a worry for me. Work should pay and I continue to campaign for an end to exploitation with regards to zero hour contracts. Wages are also a real concern with people being £1,600 worse off under David Cameron.

Adding: The Labour Party have pledged an increase in the National Minimum Wage to £8 an hour by the end of the next parliament and have also pledged a series of policies to improve people’s standard of living including a freeze on gas and electricity bills until 2017 and reforming the energy market. We have also committed to helping working parents with 25 hours of free childcare for three and four year olds. Our set of promises will address the financial problems because we understand the real issues that will help make work pay.
