Wirral South MP Alison McGovern to question Tory ministers on regeneration failure

Alison McGovern has secured a debate in Parliament on regeneration. The debate which has been secured for 8 September comes after Alison McGovern MP made fresh calls for action on regeneration in New Ferry in her constituency.

Speaking about the debate Alison McGovern said: “I have called for this debate because I can't stand to see dereliction carry on any longer. I have been working towards regenerating New Ferry alongside the local authority and developers. I know this is something my constituents care about as it has been raised with me many times.

I now want to bring the subject in to the attention of the government ministers as my constituents deserve better and this has been a local priority of mine for some time. We have a lot going for the local area such as the successful Farmers Market held at New Ferry Village Hall and the award winning Edge and Son butchers. New Ferry has many positive things but it is in need of urgent development.

She added:” We have too many derelict buildings and not enough diversity in the use of the buildings which is of concern to business owners and residents alike. Yet there is little or no help from the Tories in charge.

I have raised the issue of regeneration in the House of Commons on previous occasions. I believe the government need to do more. The cuts to our local authority budget and the ending of the North West Development Agency have hindered regional growth and the development of our area.

I believe the government should take action and I will be making the case for the need for regeneration not just In New Ferry but other parts of Wirral. It is important that the government understand how the restraint on regeneration has impacted on local areas and residents.
