Tories slash funding for services designed to give children the best start in life

Funding for Sure Start Centres has been slashed by under the current government. Reacting to the revelation that Sure Start Centres have been closed across the country Alison said:

“The government are letting Wirral’s families down by cutting funding for children’s centres. A child’s start in life is vital for their development but the Conservative government are showing a total disregard for this by slashing the amount of  Sure Start Centre provision across the country.

Sure Start Centres were announced as a Labour initiative in 1998 designed to advise families on parenthood in the early stages of a child’s life. Intervention in the early years of a child’s life can make the world of difference to their future.
