Debate Speeches Debate Speeches
My speeches in debates are an important way of scrutinising government legislation and are where I raise the important issues affecting my constituents.
Oral Questions Oral Questions
These Parliamentary Questions allow me to obtain detailed information on Government policy and allow me to gauge the Government’s policy on a certain issue.
Early Day Motions Early Day Motions
I sign these motions’s to express my support for their particular topic. If half of the house signs an EDM, then the motion can be debated.
Private Members' Bills Private Members’ Bills
These bills are an important way of getting the issues important to me
on the political agenda. At the beginning of each session, a ballot is held and 20 MPs are selected to introduce legislation. The top six MP’s are given time to have their proposals discussed in the House. If there is enough support, these can be turned into law.
Select Committees Select Committees
Since 2010 I have served on the International Development Select Committee. I, along with ten other MP’s scrutinise the work undertaken by this department.
Oral Questions Written Questions
These are similar to Oral Questions, but allow me to get more detailed information on certain issues.
