I’d like to send everybody in Wirral my best wishes for the festive season and for the year to come.
The General Election on May 7 means that 2015 will be a significant year. It will also present an opportunity to change Wirral and the rest of our country.
Serious cuts have hit us hard, and we have seen significant problems with our local NHS as the re-organisation here caused disruption. We need to put a stop to this.
I know that we can make Britain fairer with the policies that Ed Miliband has pledged and this year is our chance to have the opportunity to change our country for the better.
We will scrap the bedroom tax which I have seen first-hand from my constituents unfairly punishes vulnerable and disabled people since its introduction.
Labour have been calling on the government for this to be scrapped including in a recent debate in the House of Commons in December but unfortunately they wouldn’t listen and we didn’t win the vote.
We will also force energy companies to freeze gas and electricity prices until 2017, raise the minimum wage, ban exploitative zero hour contracts, support working parents with 25 hours of free childcare for three and four year olds and reverse the Tories £3 billion tax cut for millionaires.
We will deal with the deficit but we will do it fairly and in a way that addresses people’s everyday living standards.
In 2015 we have the chance to build a country that stands up for the many and not just the few if Labour are elected to form a government.
Looking back over the last year it was fantastic to open the Port Sunlight River Park in my constituency and this was a definite highlight for me from the last year.
I look forward to the next year continuing to serve as your MP both locally and nationally.
