Wirral South

My review of 2015

I would like to wish everybody across Wirral a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

This year I was very honoured and proud to be re-elected as the Member of Parliament for Wirral South for a second time.

I would like to thank everybody for the support shown to me during the election in May.

I have been very concerned about the refugee crisis which has dominated the news headlines over the last year and I know there are thousands across Merseyside who share this concern.

Locally the Port Sunlight River Park which I opened last year continues to go from strength to strength and I have continued to push for the regeneration of New Ferry.

This year my constituents were worried by Tory proposals to cut tax credits but thanks to pressure from Labour and the public the Chancellor made a U-turn on this in the recent Autumn Statement. However I still have concerns about Universal Credit.

I will continue to monitor the Government’s approach to funding for the police and other emergency services, local authorities and their broader approach to the NHS given the situation involving junior doctors’ contracts and the calls for the proposed contract to be scrapped. This year I have supported junior doctors in these calls and if necessary will continue to do so.

Wirral Borough Council continues to deliver services under difficult financial conditions due to the funding cuts they have suffered. I will continue to press the Government on this issue as it affects all of us.

As ever if you wish to talk to me about any issue at all as we go into 2016 then please do get in touch with my office. I look forward to continuing to represent Wirral South in 2016.
