Making the case to the government for New Ferry regeneration

This week I have written to Marcus Jones, Under Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, following my debate in Westminster where I made the case for government intervention to assist with regeneration in towns such as New Ferry.

I have been working closely with the local authority, residents and businesses to determine what the needs of New Ferry are and what challenges the town faces and earlier this month held a debate in Parliament in which I spoke about New Ferry and relayed constituents’ concerns and suggestions to the minister.

Since being elected I have been pushing for regeneration in New Ferry. I have brought this to the attention of ministers because it is clear to me that New Ferry needs initial investment to kick-start the area’s development. Locally, efforts are being made and are ongoing, but we need to make the case to the Government.

I believe the Government has a responsibility to my constituents and to other people who live in towns where there has been market failure and dereliction. It can have a profound impact on areas both aesthetically and economically and I think people who live in New Ferry and feel proud of its history deserve better.

I have spoken with the Local Authority and residents and made sure the Government know what their thoughts are about how we can move New Ferry forward.

I would also like to say that my heart goes out to the family of PC Dave Phillips who was killed this week while on duty, and my thoughts are with his friends and colleagues of the Merseyside Police.
