I will be holding a meeting to hear about how tax credit cuts will impact on Wirral families

I have recently launched a petition through my website to campaign against the government’s proposed cuts to tax credits.

You can sign my petition here www.alisonmcgovern.org.uk/tax_credits

An audience member on last week’s BBC 1 Question Time programme showed the human impact of these changes will have on families as she confronted Tory Minister Amber Rudd telling her that the government have gone back on promises to not cut tax credits.

Tax Credits are designed to ensure that work pays. Cutting them undermines the value of work, and means penalising those who work hard day after day just to get by.

The Tories have not planned any help to protect affected families. There is a real risk that children will suffer directly as a result of these changes. Labour is calling on David Cameron to stop the tax credit cut. We need to balance the books, but the way to do that isn’t to hit the wallets of those who work hard.

These cuts to tax credits will hammer families.  The Tories’ ‘National Living Wage’ is not a real living wage - the new rate when it is introduced next year will be lower than the real living wage - set out by the Living Wage Foundation - this year.

I want to hear from Wirral families about how these changes will impact on their family’s finances. That is why I will be available on the 30 October at 1PM to meet with people who are set to lose out under these changes. I will be available at a venue in Wirral South to hear from individuals and families. We need to show the human impact of these cuts to send a message to the government.

If you are available to meet please RSVP to helen.dodd@parliament.uk or phone 0151 645 6590 so we can keep in touch with you about the meeting.
