Happy 2014

Last year just before Christmas I had the pleasure to take a tour around two places in my constituency which both do really important work.

The first of the visits was to The Wirral Limb Fitting Centre in Clatterbridge. It was both inspirational and fascinating to see the level of care delivered by the staff there and to speak to both the staff and patients about how this care and the important work carried out there supports patients in enabling them to continue to live their lives as they did prior to what can be a traumatic physical change. The Centre is another reason why I am proud to have the Clatterbridge site and it’s excellent healthcare delivery in my constituency.

The second visit was to the Wirral Autistic Society where I had a tour of all the facilities and met with both the staff and service users.

Once again I was really encouraged by the staff who help service users develop both skills and independence.

I was treated to a special Christmas performance of Jingle Bells by the performing arts class which helped me get into the festive mood. I got a real sense of how dedicated the staff are and the wonderful job they do and it was a pleasure to meet the people who benefit from these services and to see how much they get from them. Their garden centre and cafe in Bromborough Pool is in a great location, near to the new public park that I have worked to see open in 2014, so hopefully this will encourage more passing traffic.

The whole tour was really interesting but another highlight for me was viewing the artwork produced by the service users, there are some fantastic pieces of art on display and I really enjoyed admiring them. The Centre offers so much in terms of skills and support to all those using its service, and along with other charities in Wirral shows how much care there is for other people in our borough.

Both of these visits helped end the year on a positive note for me and I look forward to seeing more great work in my constituency this year. Happy 2014 everyone.
