Challenging the Home Secretary on passport panic

Last week I visited St Peters Primary School in Heswall and received a very nice welcome from staff and pupils. I was very impressed with the pupil’s knowledge on Fairtrade and enjoyed talking to them about this topic during their assembly.

It was very good to see young people engaged with issues such as this and to see them so aware of the challenges facing those not so fortunate in other countries.

It was also a pleasure to present them with their green flag award for environmental sustainability issues and I would like to congratulate the school on their achievements and awareness in this area.

On a much less positive note over the last few weeks I have noticed that a worrying number of my constituents have contacted me about passport delays.

This will come as no real surprise given the news coverage about the chaos that has gone on at passport offices and the backlog they are dealing with.

Waiting on a passport can be stressful if a holiday is booked and is fast approaching so it is an unacceptable situation. I along with my Labour colleagues pressed the Home Secretary for answers on the situation in Parliament last week and I asked her about the government’s website and the misleading information that was on there.

I am unfortunately still receiving contact on delayed passports so do get in touch if you are my constituent and wish for me to look into a delayed passport on 0151 645 6590.
