Alison McGovern says no to Hydrodec plant at Eastham

Having listened to people in Eastham Labour's Parliamentary candidate for Wirral South Alison McGovern said “I am against these plans. I am very worried about the impact such a development will have on an area of natural beauty and the historical village of Eastham.”

Proposals to build an oil refining plant at Eastham Locks on land next to the QE2 Dock were unveiled by Hydrodec earlier this year.

As a nationally significant infrastructure project Hydrodec are required to present their plans to the National Planning Inspectorate. Further information  about the process the inspectorate follows can be found on their web site at  http://infrastructure.planningportal.gov.uk

The process requires that representations from all interested parties be heard. “If re-elected to Parliament I will be working alongside Eastham residents in that process” said Alison McGovern.

"I am worried that such a development could risk the natural beauty of the area. Although Eastham has always had its industrial parts too - both historically and currently - such new sites should not be built without regard to the extensive use our community gets from the country park, and the needs of local residents.

"This part of the Mersey is unique. It has special views and natural features that should not be put at risk. It is important for our local visitor economy, and for the health and wellbeing of people in the south of Wirral."
