I would like to wish all Wirral residents a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Christmas is an exciting and cheerful time of year for many but it is also important to keep the not so fortunate in our thoughts.
With the rising cost of living Christmas will be a struggle for many here living on the Wirral. We have seen in the last year that despite the government’s own confidence in their economic strategy that people are still feeling insecure about their own situations and finances and I will continue to campaign on these issues and raise them in 2014.
We must also think of those who might be spending Christmas alone and for whatever other personal reasons may not find the occasion to be a happy time of year. As well as excitement and fun Christmas should also be a time of kindness.
In the run up to Christmas I have visited the hard working Royal Mail staff in Heswall and I am due later this week to meet the staff based in New Ferry. They play a really important part at Christmas time to try and get those cards, letters and parcels delivered to us on time and it was great to meet with them.
Finally Christmas is a good time to also support our local small businesses so I would encourage people to shop locally where possible.
I very much look forward to what the next year brings in my role as MP for Wirral South both here and in Parliament.
