On Friday evening Alison McGovern (MP for Wirral South) held a meeting for junior doctors to discuss their concerns about the new junior doctors' contract that the Government are trying to introduce.
Speaking about the meeting Ms McGovern said: “I was contacted by many junior doctors living in my constituency expressing their apprehension about the new terms and conditions the Secretary of State for Health Jeremy Hunt wants to introduce.
Due to the level of concern I held a meeting so I could hear all the points that my constituents wanted to raise with me. They have very serious concerns about safety, impact on patients, and morale.
I do not want a return to the old system where there was little protection for NHS staff having to work extremely long hours. This is bad for patients and staff alike.
I will be writing to Jeremy Hunt to relay these points. Junior doctors like all NHS staff perform a vital job and it is crucial that their work is not compromised in any way. The doctors I spoke to talked with passion about their love of the job, and were a credit to their profession. I would urge anyone who is affected to get in touch with me so I can make the best case possible to the Department of Health.”
Those affected can contact Alison McGovern MP by phone on 0151 645 6590 or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org Letters can also be sent by post to 99 New Chester Road, New Ferry, Wirral, CH62 4RA.
