Responding to today's Autumn Statement Alison McGovern MP for Wirral South said: “The Tories have broken their promise to balance the books by 2015, with the next Labour Government set to inherit a large deficit as a result. The Chancellor isn't helping the many in our country who have had a very tough four years.
There is a fundamental link between the living standards of everyday working people and our ability to deal with the deficit and we want to build an economic recovery that works for everybody in a fair way and not in a way that benefits those just at the top.
We have set out a plan to deliver stronger growth and more good jobs paying decent wages. We will make work pay and tackle insecurity by raising the minimum wage, banning exploitative zero-hours contracts and expanding free childcare for working parents.”
