I would like to wish everybody in Wirral a happy New Year and send my best wishes for the year ahead.
Before the Christmas period I was contacted by constituents who are part of the women against state pension inequality (WASPI) campaign. The group are campaigning against unfair changes to the State Pension Age imposed on women born in the 1950s.
Thank you to those who have contacted me so far about their situation and concerns.
The group are an action group who are campaigning on social media and taking other action to raise awareness of their campaign.
There is a petition that has been set up and this can be found here https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/110776. The petition has received over 100,000 signatures so far.
I have met with constituent’s invidually to discuss the issue but I would like to take it further by holding a public meeting for those who are affected.
If you are affected and want to come along to discuss the matter with me then please do get in touch with my office. You can phone the office on 0151 645 6590 or email me on email@example.com
The meeting is scheduled for the 15 January between 1-2PM. I will keep in touch with those who have contacted me and liaise with them about the arrangements.
There will be a backbench business debate tomorrow (7 January) taking place in the House of Commons chamber. SNP MP Mhairi Black will be leading the debate and I will ofcourse be monitoring how this debate goes.
This is an important issue and I hope if you are affected that you can come along to the meeting I am holding or alternatively book an appointment to come and see me.
